10 Tips for Buying a Double Jogging Stroller

If you are a mom or dad who loves to jog or power walk - and you have two young children - it's not easy to get you exercise sessions. Now might be the time for you to consider a double jogging stroller for your family.
A double jogger will be lightweight and have a fixed front wheel. The fixed front wheel is ideal for jogging, because it provides the stability and straight tracking that you need.
Making a decision on which stroller is best for you is not a simple choice. There are many factors to consider. Here are the top 10 factors to keep in mind.
1. Wheel type. The way that jogging strollers assure a smooth ride and an easy push for the runner/walker is the large wheels. The wheels on your stroller should be 16" in diameter and they should be similar to a bicycle tire - air filled tires and spoked wheels.
2. Make sure your kids will be comfortable. The seats in the stroller should be easily reclined - and the seats should be padded and constructed of fabric that is breathable and is a light-weight material.
3. Flexible Handlebar. You want to make sure that the stroller is easy to push for anyone - no matter what their height is. If you think that people of differing heights will be regularly using the stroller to walk or jog, then look for one that has a flexible-height handlebar. Being able to adjust the height of the handlebar anywhere from 39" to 43" will make it comfortable for anyone of any height to push the stroller.
4. Lightweight - you don't want to be hauling and running with a double jogger stroller that is inefficiently built. The lighter the better. Look for a running stroller that is 35 pounds or less.
5. Long lasting. Today's strollers will either be welded aluminium frame construction or will be constructed of metal tubes connected with plastic joints. Look for one that has a welded aluminium frame - it will be more expensive, but they are noticeably lighter and much sturdier than strollers with metal tube frames. Also, look for a stroller that has wheels made of alloy - they are lighter and rust-resistant - compared to steel wheels.
6. Safe for Your Children. You want to make sure that your kids will be safe and secure while in the stroller. Each of the seats in the stroller should have its own safety harness for keeping your children in the stroller - and keeping them safe. The best and easiest harnesses are 5 point harness.
7. Brakes. Your double jogging stroller must have a parking brake (usually a bar near the rear wheels that is engaged with a flip of your foot). In addition, the better jogging strollers will have a hand brake (situated on the handlebar) which is similar to a bicycle hand-brake and is used to quickly stop the stroller when running or walking.
8. Sun canopies. Sun canopies on strollers are there to protect your kids from the damaging rays of the sun. With a double stroller there should be two separately-operated canopies. Each of them should be independently positioned so that each of the riders is protected from the sun being in their face.
9. Easy to put away and easy to set up - Look for one that has a simple, easy process for setting up for your run or walk and for folding down to a compact size for storage or placing into a car trunk. And make sure that it can be easily folded by one person. You won't always have a second person with you to help with the baby and the stroller. And, if you plan to travel a lot look for one that has quick-release wheels that pop off for ultimate compactness when folded.
10. Makes Sure Your Stroller is Rated to Safely Hold Your Kids. The certified weight of the stroller should be no less than 100 pounds. As your kids grow and gain weight you still want to be able to use the stroller for runs or power-walks.
